THE PROBLEM

Total website and service outage. DNS records were incorrect. SSL certificate had expired. Apache was misconfigured by not redirecting the traffic properly, causing full downtime and loss of functionality. Downtime of +10 hours, the customer was contacting the server provider without success or results.

THE RESULT

Fixed DNS entries. Renewed and applied SSL certificate with automated certificate generation using Let's encrypt through the Plesk panel. Corrected apache settings. All the services were back in less than 1 hour.

Technical Implementation

DNS Restorage

Reviewed and corrected all DNS records in Plesk. Removed outdated entries and pointed A, CNAME, and MX records to the correct IPs. Verified propagation.

SSL Renewal

Generated a new SSL certificate via Let’s Encrypt with Plesk. Installed and applied it to all relevant domains in Plesk. Confirmed HTTPS was active and valid across the site.

Apache Configuration

Identified that Apache was blocking all incoming connections on port 443 due to misconfigured virtual host and SSL directives. Edited the Apache configuration files to correctly handle HTTPS traffic. Reloaded the service and restored full secure access to the website.

Service Validation

Tested website, email, and panel access after changes. Confirmed external availability and SSL security. No errors or downtime after fix.

Challenges Overcome

  • •Client was losing money and customers every hour the website was down.Plesk panel was barely accessible due to misconfigurations so a connection via SSH and IP was needed.
  • •Apache configuration was blocking the traffic through port 443, no one could access.
  • •No documentation from the previous admin of the services.
  • •The Cert generator from Plesk had an 1h cooldown due to rate limits.

Key Outcomes

  • ✓Website and all services restored in under 1 hour.
  • ✓Stopped client and revenue loss. DNS, SSL and Apache configurations were fixed.
  • ✓HTTPS was permanently enabled thanks to the Plesk cert generator.
  • ✓Customer's clients could access the website again.
